The International Health Economics Associations (IHEA) was established on May 10, 1994, by Tom Getzen and other prominent health economists. It operates globally from Toronto, supporting a worldwide network of over 1500 members from more than 100 countries.
IHEA holds a World Congress on alternate years, constituting a leading global forum for health economists. The 15th Congress was held in Cape Town in 2023, and the 16th is planned for Bali in 2025.
IHEA has a range of Special Interest Groups and offers webinars, mentoring programs, and other training sessions to support early- and mid-career health economists.
With strong academic membership, IHEA promotes excellence in health economics research and teaching, supports early-career researchers, and fosters international collaboration to influence global health policy.
The association provides various online resources, including a Teaching Materials Repository, diversity and inclusion resources, career opportunities, and information on research grants and training programmes.
