Health economics associations

Health economics is a well established academic discipline, and the associations that represent this speciality provide a combination of academic opportunities and broader health policy support to members working within the university and industry sectors.

A selection of the international associations and the largest national organisations is given below.

International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR)

The association most active in the access arena in fact specialises in health economics.

ISPOR is a global association founded in 1995 and headquartered in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, USA. It has regional chapters and multi-day regional conferences addressing primarily health economic topics but also covering access and broader health policy topics. The attached exhibitor halls attract a wide range of access and health economic suppliers. Extensive poster sessions are arranged thematically and abstracts are published in the society's monthly Value in Health journal. Social events allow for networking, while pre-conference short courses cover a range of relevant topics.

In addition to the conferences and its scientific journal, ISPOR advances the practice of health economics with the development of good practice guides that are referenced by HTA bodies across the globe. Its website contains a wide range of health technology assessment and health economics reference material.
