A new digital update provides stakeholders with dynamic access to the latest trends in national pharmaceutical expenditure and usage.
The Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco (Italian Medicines Agency) has released the latest update for its digital monitoring tool, OsMed Interattivo (Interactive OsMed). This release integrates comprehensive datasets covering drug consumption and spending in Italy up to August 2025. The tool, managed by the Osservatorio Nazionale sull’impiego dei Medicinali (National Observatory on the Use of Medicines), allows for granular analysis of pharmaceutical trends.
The previous situation relied primarily on the publication of static, annual reports which often resulted in a time lag before consumption shifts were identified. The resulting change is a decisive move towards a dynamic digital dashboard. Users can now apply custom filters to view data by geographical region, therapeutic class, and distribution channel, facilitating a more responsive analysis of the domestic market.
Robert Nisticò, the Presidente (President) of the Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco, noted that this update enhances transparency for researchers and policymakers. This is a periodic update to an existing digital doctrine designed to modernise health technology assessment.
The new datasets were made live on 19 December 2025. This digitisation is expected to streamline market access evaluations and budgetary planning. By providing immediate visibility into consumption patterns, the tool will likely allow for quicker interventions in prescribing guidelines and more accurate forecasting of expenditure.
