The Ministry of Health (Министерство на здравеопазването, MZ) published Системите на Националната здравноосигурителна каса и Националния съвет по цени и реимбурсиране на лекарствените продукти вече са свързани (The information systems of the National Health Insurance Fund and the National Council on Prices and Reimbursement of Medicinal Products are now connected) on 16 March 2026.
The notice states that, on the initiative of the Ministry, the information systems of the National Health Insurance Fund (Национална здравноосигурителна каса, NHIF) and the National Council on Prices and Reimbursement of Medicinal Products (Национален съвет по цени и реимбурсиране на лекарствените продукти, NCPRMP) have been linked and will exchange data in real time. The integration was implemented by Информационно обслужване (Information Services, AD), and the systems are due to begin operating synchronously from 1 April 2026.
The measure is a response to the practical problem of manual reconciliation between medicines lists. The ministry states that every change in the Positive Drug List will now be reflected automatically in the NHIF information systems. According to the notice, the change will improve control over prescribing and dispensing, optimise the work of the specialised administration, and reduce technical errors or inaccuracies affecting NHIF contractual partners that use centralised medicines nomenclatures.
NHIF staff have until now compared changes in medicines lists manually against previous periods. Under the new functionality, that process will become automatic, with faster and more accurate introduction of updates and less risk of error, while the change is projected to lead to improved patient access to new medicines.
