Denmark has created a formal government taskforce in response to the US Most Favoured Nation (MFN) medicines-pricing policy, bringing health, economic and foreign-policy authorities together with regional, industry and patient representatives. The remit covers both access to innovative medicines and the wider conditions influencing pharmaceutical research and investment in Denmark.
The US administration’s prospective MFN framework links prices for new US medicines to those available in other high-income countries. The White House has stated explicitly that the policy is intended to combine lower US prices with upward pressure on prices elsewhere. By May, it had reached voluntary MFN agreements with 17 major manufacturers.
The Danish taskforce will assess the implications for medicine-market conditions in Denmark and the EU, supply security, patient access, clinical trials and innovation. It will monitor developments and discuss potential responses at both national and European level. Available data will support the work where possible.
The Ministry of Health and Ecclesiastical Affairs of Denmark (Sundheds- og Kirkeministeriet) leads the taskforce. Participants include the business and foreign ministries, regional authorities, the Danish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (Lægemiddelindustriforeningen, Lif), wider business organisations and Danish Patients. The group will meet approximately every six weeks and report its discussions to the National Life Science Council. It has initially been established for the remainder of 2026, with continuation to be reviewed at year-end.
Minister for Health Ida Auken said the government wants to understand the consequences for both patients and companies as US market conditions change. The taskforce gives Denmark a formal route for considering whether MFN alters pricing incentives, launch decisions and investment conditions – and whether any response needs coordination at EU level.
